For Josefine LARNE (Class of 2019), studying MSc in Global Operations (MSGO) at HKUST has been a life-changing experience both speeding up her personal development and sharpening her professional edge.

Josefine worked as a professional auditor associate at KPMG Sweden when she decided to leave for Asia. Contrary to her highly technical auditor job, she was in search of a forward-thinking and creative master’s degree that would expose her to the wide spectrum of business operations, and at the same time placing her in the heart of the exciting Asian business landscape. “The HKUST MSc in Global Operations program was exactly what I had been looking for. Enrolling the course was one of the best decisions I have ever made!”

Mind-blowing learning experience

Indeed, the learning experience at HKUST far exceeded Josefine’s initial expectation. Throughout the 1-year MSGO course, she had the opportunity to further sharpen her understanding on general topics including Marketing Strategy and Policy and Corporate Finance, while acquiring new insights on latest business development such as Big Data Analytics and also Managing Financial Services Operations.

“The professors at HKUST are knowledgeable, open-minded and always there to help,” she recalls. “Classes were also carefully designed based on real business situation, and well-structured with interactive discussion, practical case studies and projects.” The peer network she established at HKUST was also another valuable asset for Josefine, “I had a group of very supportive and caring classmates, we were so eager to learn and grow up together.”

Preparing for further success ahead

Despite the busy class schedule, Josefine also fully utilized her postgraduate student life in Hong Kong exploring different career development opportunities and off-class activities. Hiking was one of her favourite hobbies which she enjoyed a lot. With the time management skills she learnt during the 1-year study, Josefine was able to strike a good balance between study and rest, enjoying the beauty of the nature while recharging herself for further challenges ahead.

By undertaking the MSc in Global Operations courses at HKUST, Josefine has opened up a lot of new business possibilities which she had never imagined before. Awarded the MSGO Academic Performance Scholarships for Excellent Performance, Josefine’s expertise also received recognition from top-notch companies during her job hunting.

Currently working as a business planning analyst in a multinational company back in her hometown Sweden, the business knowledge and soft- skills Josefine obtained from the MSGO program shall definitely remain as her lifelong assets leading her to further achievements ahead.
